BMFA CENTENARY RECORD ATTEMPT

MID SUSSEX FLYERS (MSF)

BMFA Centenary Record Attempt – FSL.304

Following last years aborted attempt due to rain and strong winds the club were planning to contribute to the world record attempt due to take place on Sunday 14th May 2023 at 12.00.  The aim was to join all other clubs in the UK and Sovereign Territory in a simultaneous mass flight at exactly 12.00 – last year the UK flew 3019 aircraft from 203 clubs.

We had 14 entries and the forecast looked promising with light wind, no rain but overcast, however on the day the sun was shining and there was a very light easterly wind.  Perfect!  Flyers arrived at the strip at 10.30 for a dry run with models followed by a pilot brief at 11.15.

The flyers were put into groups depending on the type of aeroplane they had.  Group A launched at 11.50; group B at 11.53; Group C at 11.56 and Group D just before 12.00.  All the groups landed in sequence D, C, B and A after double signal utilising the runway allowing as much separation as possible and calling landing on final approach
